On a cold Friday in February, Bovaconti Coffee Carmel officially opened on Valentine’s Day, bringing its signature Italian-inspired coffee culture to the heart of the city. This new café sits at the historic northwest corner of Main Street and Rangeline Road, one of the most well-known intersections in Carmel, home to one of the city’s only traffic lights.
Surrounded by local businesses, the high school, and the library, Bovaconti is in a prime location for foot traffic, making it an easy stop for students, professionals, and families. But what truly makes this coffee shop stand out is what’s inside—a stunning pink Art Deco interior, a nod to its original Fountain Square location, restored to perfection in a way that blends vintage charm with modern coffee culture.

First Impressions: A Coffee Shop Unlike Any Other
From the outside, Bovaconti Coffee in Carmel looked unassuming, just another addition to the city’s growing coffee scene. But stepping inside was a completely different experience—it was easily the busiest coffee shop I’ve ever seen. The grand opening brought people from all over Indianapolis, eager to see the reimagined space and experience the drinks they’d come to love from Bovaconti’s original location.
The interior was jaw-droppingly beautiful. Everything—from the terrazzo countertops to the intricate tile work and vintage-style light fixtures—felt thoughtfully curated. The space is drenched in soft pink hues, accented with brass details, a perfect fit for Carmel’s upscale, design-forward aesthetic.
One of the coolest features? The original bank vault, which has been transformed into a unique seating area. It’s the kind of space that invites people to linger, chat, and take in the details, rather than just grab a coffee and go.

The Drinks: A True Test of Espresso Quality
For our first visit, we wanted to put Bovaconti’s coffee to the test. As a new café in Carmel, it has a lot of competition—from independent coffee spots to major chains—so the quality of the drinks needed to match the stunning aesthetic of the space.
☕ Jacob’s Drink: A Short Honey Lavender Latte
Jacob ordered a short honey lavender latte, a drink perfect for lavender lovers. The honey balanced out the floral notes, and while the espresso itself was well-pulled, the milk was scalded, which slightly impacted the overall flavor.
☕ Courtney’s Drink: A Tall Plain Latte
I went with a tall plain latte—no flavors, no added sweetness—just espresso and milk. This is my go-to test (that or a cappuccino) for any new coffee shop because it reveals the true character of the espresso.
Bovaconti’s espresso was bright and lively, with notes of blueberry and citrus, a profile that suggests they’re using a light to medium roast with natural processing. However, the steamed milk was too hot, which muted some of the espresso’s natural flavors.
Would I order it again? Absolutely. But I’d ask for cooler steamed milk next time to bring out the full potential of their espresso.

A Classic Croissant & Future Pastry Plans
We couldn’t visit without trying a pastry, so we went for a classic croissant, warmed up to perfection. It was flaky, buttery, and delicate, exactly what you’d hope for from a café aiming to serve high-quality European-style coffee and baked goods.
Their full pastry menu is still something I’d love to explore—on future visits, I’ll be looking out for any specialty baked goods or seasonal offerings.
A Space Designed for Gathering
The energy inside Bovaconti Coffee in Carmel was unlike any coffee shop I’ve been to on an opening day. It wasn’t just filled with locals—you could tell people, standing in a line wrapped inside the building, had driven up from different parts of Indianapolis to check it out.
There was something special about seeing so many people in one space, chatting, sipping drinks, and taking in the atmosphere. Carmel’s coffee scene has plenty of solid options, but Bovaconti feels different—it’s a place that invites you to slow down and enjoy the experience, rather than just grab a drink and go.
The seating layout also reflects that—there are cozy corners for intimate conversations, bar seating for people-watching, and larger communal tables that encourage interaction.

What’s Next? A Return Visit for Italian Sodas
While our first visit focused on espresso drinks, Bovaconti is also known for its Italian sodas, something I’d love to come back and try. A well-made Italian soda—with high-quality syrups and proper carbonation—can be just as refreshing and exciting as an espresso drink.
And with warmer weather on the horizon, it’s the perfect excuse to visit again.
Final Thoughts on Bovaconti Coffee Carmel

There’s no doubt that Bovaconti Coffee in Carmel has quickly cemented itself as a must-visit café. Its prime location, jaw-dropping interior, and high-quality coffee make it a standout in the city’s growing coffee scene.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely.
If you’re someone who:
- Loves beautiful, design-forward coffee spaces
- Enjoys bright, fruit-forward espresso
- Appreciates a balance of classic and modern menu options
Then Bovaconti Coffee in Carmel is worth the visit.
My one critique would be the steamed milk temperature, which I think is an easy fix and something that could improve as baristas get more time on the machines. But overall, this is a place I’ll drop back by when I have the chance.
